South Africa's Private Reserve Capital

The Greater Kruger ecosystem — encompassing Kruger National Park and the private reserves that share its unfenced western boundary — is South Africa's safari heartland. Among those private reserves, Sabi Sands stands apart. Home to some of the continent's most famous luxury lodges and consistently ranked among the world's top safari destinations, it offers extraordinary leopard sightings, prolific Big Five game viewing, and the infrastructure that makes genuine kosher hospitality possible.

Why Sabi Sands Over Kruger Proper?

Kruger National Park and Sabi Sands share the same animals — the fences between them came down long ago. What differs is the experience. In Kruger you drive public roads with hundreds of other vehicles; in Sabi Sands a maximum of three vehicles per sighting is enforced, and your guide can track animals off-road through the bush. Night drives, walking safaris, and private concessions are all available. For a Jewish group that needs kitchen access and Shabbat planning, the private reserves are the right choice.

The Wildlife

Sabi Sands is arguably the best place in Africa to see leopard. The animals here are completely habituated to vehicles and can be observed at extremely close range. Lion prides are resident and active; elephant, buffalo, rhino, and hippo are encountered daily. The reserve's varied habitat — riverine forest, open bushveld, rocky outcrops — supports an enormous diversity of species beyond the Big Five.

Kosher & Shabbat

Our partner lodges in Sabi Sands have full kitchen facilities where our supervising mashgiach can operate. We work with trusted kosher caterers from Johannesburg — just 90 minutes away — to ensure glatt mehadrin food arrives fresh for every meal. Shabbat logistics here are particularly smooth: the lodges are accustomed to hosting observant Jewish groups, and we've developed detailed protocols for pre-Shabbat game drives, Shabbat meals in the boma, and Havdalah around the fire.

Logistics

Fly into OR Tambo International (JNB) in Johannesburg and connect on a 50-minute charter flight to the Sabi Sands airstrip, or take a scenic 4-hour drive through the Lowveld. We can also arrange combinations with Johannesburg city stays, Cape Town, or the Winelands.
