<h2>The Mother City</h2> <p>Cape Town is one of the world's most beautiful cities. Table Mountain looms over a city of extraordinary natural drama — the Atlantic on one side, the Indian Ocean on the other, vineyards and whale-watching bays within an hour's drive in any direction. For Jewish travellers, it has the added advantage of a well-established, warm, and welcoming Jewish community that makes kosher living here genuinely easy.</p> <h2>Jewish Cape Town</h2> <p>The Cape Jewish community is one of the oldest in Africa, with roots going back to the mid-nineteenth century. Today it is centred primarily in the Sea Point and Green Point suburbs, where multiple kosher restaurants, delis, bakeries, and supermarkets serve a community that punches well above its size in cultural and intellectual life. Shuls representing the full spectrum of observance are within walking distance of the main tourist hotels in Sea Point.</p> <p>For Shabbat in Cape Town, we recommend Sea Point as a base. Everything you need — shul, food, fellow Jewish travellers — is within comfortable walking distance, and the promenade along the Atlantic with the setting sun is as beautiful a Shabbat backdrop as we know.</p> <h2>Activities</h2> <p>Table Mountain (cable car or hiking trail), the Cape of Good Hope, Boulders Beach African penguin colony, Robben Island, the V&A Waterfront, wine tasting in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek — Cape Town offers more activities per square kilometre than almost any city in the world. Most families plan three to four days here, either before or after their bush safari.</p> <h2>As Part of a Safari Itinerary</h2> <p>We most commonly combine Cape Town with a Sabi Sands or Kruger safari. The typical flow: arrive in Johannesburg, transfer to the bush for four to six days of game drives, fly down to Cape Town for three to four days of city and wine country, then depart. Both legs are fully kosher-catered and Shabbat-planned. The contrast between the bush and the city is part of what makes this itinerary so popular with families and couples alike.</p>
