The Experience

The Smoke That Thunders

Victoria Falls — Mosi-oa-Tunya in the local Tonga language, "The Smoke That Thunders" — is the world's largest waterfall by combined width and height. The Zambezi River plunges 108 metres over a 1.7-kilometre-wide basalt cliff, generating a permanent cloud of mist and roar that can be heard and seen from 40 kilometres away. Standing on the viewing paths with the spray drenching you and rainbows arcing through the mist is one of the defining experiences of any Africa journey.

Victoria Falls as a Safari Add-On

Very few of our clients come to Victoria Falls on its own — most add it to a Chobe, Botswana, or Zimbabwe safari. The Falls are 90 minutes by road or 20 minutes by air from Kasane (Chobe's main town), and the airport at Victoria Falls Town handles direct flights from Johannesburg. A two-night stay adds a completely different dimension to the trip — dramatic, adventure-filled, and accessible for all ages.

Activities

The Falls themselves are best seen on foot via the viewing paths on the Zimbabwe side (most comprehensive) or the Zambia side (closer to the main curtain of water). Beyond the Falls: helicopter flights over the gorge, sunset river cruises on the Zambezi, white-water rafting in the gorge (for active guests), bungee jumping from the bridge, and guided historical walks. We select activities based on your group's age profile and coordinate timing around davening, meals, and Shabbat.

Kosher at Victoria Falls

The main hotels in Victoria Falls Town have kitchen facilities where our mashgiach can work. The town's proximity to Johannesburg means supply chains are reliable, and we have established relationships with the local hospitality teams who understand exactly what glatt-kosher supervision requires.
