  • Wildlife: January marks the beginning of the spectacular wildebeest calving season in the Southern Serengeti. Thousands of calves are born daily, attracting a high concentration of predators like lion, leopard, and cheetah. Tanzania's "Green Season" means lush landscapes and excellent birdwatching. In South Africa, the summer heat brings the Big Five out to water sources, offering superb viewing.
  • Weather: East Africa experiences warm temperatures with occasional short, refreshing showers, transforming the plains into a verdant paradise. Southern Africa is in its summer, meaning hot, sunny days with a chance of dramatic afternoon thunderstorms.
  • Pricing: East Africa offers excellent value with shoulder season rates, making it an ideal time for our guests seeking a luxurious experience without peak season costs. Southern Africa is at its peak season due to local summer holidays.
  • Jewish Calendar: Often falling after Chanukah, January is a wonderful time for families to travel, sometimes coinciding with Tu B'Shvat, celebrating the renewal of nature – a perfect fit for the African bush.

February: Peak Calving & Crater Riches

  • Best Destinations: Southern Serengeti (Tanzania), Ngorongoro Crater.
  • Wildlife: February is the absolute peak of the wildebeest calving season in the Ndutu plains of the Southern Serengeti. Witnessing thousands of newborns and the intense predator-prey interactions is a truly profound experience. The Ngorongoro Crater remains consistently excellent, offering dense wildlife viewing within its caldera, including the Big Five.
  • Weather: East Africa continues its warm "Green Season" with beautiful clear spells between any passing showers, maintaining the lush environment.
  • Pricing: Still a period of good value in East Africa, offering prime wildlife viewing at more accessible rates compared to the dry season peaks.
  • Jewish Calendar: While no major holidays typically fall in February, it's a calm period for travel, allowing our guests to fully immerse themselves in the safari experience before the busy spring holiday season. Purim can sometimes fall in late February.

March: Herds on the Move & Southern Africa's Autumn Charm

  • Best Destinations: Central Serengeti (Tanzania) as the herds begin their northward journey. South Africa's Kruger National Park and the Cape Winelands offer pleasant autumn conditions.

In Southern Africa, the animals are still very active, and the slightly cooler temperatures make for comfortable game drives.
