The definitive 14-day itinerary through Kenya and Tanzania's greatest parks.
Your East Africa Journey: Kenya & Tanzania Explored
Embark on our definitive 14-day East Africa safari, meticulously crafted to showcase the very best of Kenya and Tanzania. This comprehensive itinerary seamlessly blends iconic wildlife encounters with rich cultural experiences, all while ensuring the highest standards of glatt kosher cuisine and halachic observance. We've designed this journey for discerning travelers who seek an immersive adventure without compromising on their commitment to tradition.
Days 1-2: Nairobi – City & Conservation
Your East Africa odyssey begins in Nairobi, Kenya's vibrant capital. Upon arrival, our team will greet you and transfer you to your luxurious accommodations. These initial days are dedicated to conservation and culture, offering a gentle introduction to the region. We'll visit the Giraffe Centre, where you can hand-feed Rothschild's giraffes, and the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, observing the dedicated care given to rescued infant elephants. A step back in time awaits at the Karen Blixen Museum, the former home of the author of "Out of Africa." Throughout your stay in Nairobi, we arrange for delightful kosher dining experiences, ensuring every meal meets our strict mehadrin standards.
Days 3-5: Kenya's Masai Mara – Predator Paradise
From Nairobi, we take a scenic bush flight directly into the heart of the Masai Mara National Reserve. For three full days, you'll be immersed in one of Africa's most prolific wildlife destinations. If your safari is planned between July and October, you'll witness the awe-inspiring spectacle of the Great Migration, with millions of wildebeest and zebra crossing the Mara River. Year-round, the Mara offers incredible predator viewing, with excellent chances to spot lions, leopards, and cheetahs on our extensive game drives. Our expert guides know the Mara intimately, positioning you for unparalleled photographic opportunities and intimate wildlife encounters.
Days 6-8: Transition to Tanzania & Tarangire's Giants
On Day 6, we facilitate a smooth transition from Kenya to Tanzania. You'll fly from the Masai Mara back to Nairobi, then connect to a flight to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) in Tanzania. From there, our Tanzanian team will meet you for the transfer to Tarangire National Park. Known for its vast elephant herds and ancient baobab trees, Tarangire offers a distinct landscape and diverse wildlife. Over two full days, we'll explore its riverine forests and open grasslands, encountering elephants, giraffes, zebras, and numerous antelope species. The park's quieter atmosphere provides a wonderfully intimate safari experience.
Days 9-10: Ngorongoro Crater – A World Within
Next, we ascend to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our lodge, perched on the crater rim, offers breathtaking views. The highlight here is a full-day descent into the Ngorongoro Crater itself – a collapsed volcanic caldera teeming with an extraordinary concentration of wildlife. It's one of the best places in Africa to spot the Big Five in a single day. We also include a meaningful Maasai cultural visit, offering insight into the traditions and way of life of this iconic semi-nomadic tribe. For those planning a Shabbat observance during their safari, Ngorongoro's rim lodges provide an ideal setting for a restful and spiritually uplifting experience.
Days 11-13: Serengeti – Endless Plains & The Great Migration
Our journey culminates in the vast plains of the Serengeti National Park, truly the crown jewel of African safaris. We'll utilize convenient bush flights within Tanzania to reach our chosen luxury camp. For three full days, you'll explore this immense ecosystem, renowned for its dramatic landscapes and incredible wildlife. Depending on the time of year, we'll position you to witness different stages of the Great Migration, from calving season in the south to river crossings in the north. Beyond the migration, the Serengeti is home to an abundance of predators and prey, offering constant action. An optional hot air balloon safari over the plains at dawn provides a truly spectacular perspective. If your Shabbat falls during this period, we can strategically plan your rest day in a central Serengeti camp.
Day 14: Farewell East Africa
On your final day, we'll enjoy a leisurely breakfast before taking a final bush flight from the Serengeti back to Arusha. From Arusha, you'll connect to your international flight home, carrying memories of an extraordinary safari adventure.
Kosher & Shabbat Excellence on Safari
At The Kosher Safari, we understand that maintaining kashrut and observing Shabbat are paramount. For this premium itinerary, we position a dedicated, experienced kosher chef with your group throughout the entire journey. This ensures that every meal – from gourmet breakfasts to picnic lunches in the bush and elegant dinners under the stars – is prepared fresh, on-site, to the highest mehadrin standards, under the constant supervision of our mashgiach. All ingredients are pre-arranged and sourced according to strict halachic requirements.
Shabbat observance is seamlessly integrated into your itinerary. We strategically plan rest days at lodges that offer comfortable accommodations for a full Shabbat experience, allowing for davening, candle lighting, and a peaceful day of reflection amidst the beauty of Africa. Our team handles all necessary arrangements, from hot plates for meals to ensuring no driving on Shabbat, so you can fully embrace the sanctity of the day.
