A Kosher Safari Before or After the Yamim Noraim
The chagim at home. The best game viewing of the year either side.
We don't run safaris over Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur or Sukkot. Tishrei is a month most families spend at home. We plan private glatt-kosher trips in September, before the Yamim Noraim, or from late October once Simchat Torah is over.
Tishrei 5788 dates and your two windows
- Erev Rosh Hashanah: Friday 1 October 2027
- Rosh Hashanah: Saturday 2 – Sunday 3 October 2027
- Yom Kippur: Monday 11 October 2027
- Sukkot to Simchat Torah: Saturday 16 – Sunday 24 October 2027
- Before: September 2027, home in good time for Rosh Hashanah.
- After: from Monday 25 October 2027, through November.
Dates are for the diaspora. In Israel, Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah fall on the same day, so the window after Sukkot opens a day earlier.
Why September and late October are so good
- Southern Africa: the end of the dry season in Kruger, the Sabi Sands and Botswana, with animals concentrated around water.
- East Africa: September is still dry season in Kenya and Tanzania, with the migration herds usually in the northern Serengeti and the Masai Mara.
- After the chagim: late October and November bring the first rains and newborn animals in southern Africa, and quieter lodges.
Every trip runs on our own glatt-kosher catering with a mashgiach and a private chef, and we plan Shabbat into the route from the start. Tell us your minhagim and we'll build them in.
